Kush Maini bags second place in German Karting Championship
Kush Maini clinched the second spot in the final round of the German Karting Championship (DKM) at Kerpen (Germany) during the weekend. This was the fifteen-year-old’s first foray into senior karting.
Maini qualified fifth overall with a time of 43.375 seconds, 0.133 seconds off the leader. He then got a sixth place starting position for the finals.
At the start, Maini lost two places but he patiently worked his way up the order. During one lap, he overtook three drivers to jump to second. However, all his efforts were wasted as an incident saw the red flag being waved. According to rules, Maini restarted the race in fifth place but was back in second place soon enough. He then tried to challenge the leader but could not and earned a handsome second place.
Maini also set the fastest lap of the race with a time of 43.395 seconds that was almost two-tenths quicker than anyone else on the grid.
He said: “First of all, I’d like to thank my team, Forza Racing, who gave me a near perfect kart to work with. I tried my best to make a move on the last lap but couldn’t make it stick and had to settle for second. But I’m quite happy with KF (senior class) debut. I’ve never raced in Germany before. So to come here and get a podium straight away is quite a good result.”
